米粉 Rice Flour

こちらは南インドのデザート。名前は忘れちゃいました。おばちゃんが、米粉で作ってるって言ってました。米粉の使い方も、国が変わると色んな使い方があるなーと思いました。オレンジ色のは、砂糖。白いのはココナツフレークです。美味しかったよ。

This is a Southern Indian dessert.  I forgot the name.  The auntie said this crape was made with rice flour.   It's interesting to see different ways of using rice flour depending on the country.  The orange color topping was sugar and the white color one was coconut flake.  It was very good.

ベーキング Baking

水曜日に義理両親が帰ってしまったので、料理を再開しなくちゃいけなくなりました。２日目にしてもう何を作ろうかとストレスを感じています。このパンは水曜日に焼きました。ベーキングはちっとも気になりません。どうしてだろうと考えました。ベーキングは、化学と美術のクラスを合わせたみたい。材料を正確に計り、その材料で起こる変化によって何かが出来上がる。パン作りは、こねこねして粘土遊びのように色んな形を作る。私は、科学系と美術系は好きだから、ベーキングは好き。でも料理はいやだーー！どうしたら料理がもっと楽しくなるかなー？

My parents in-law went back home on Wednesday, so I had to start cooking.  It's been only two days, but I am already feeling stressed about what to cook.  Those breads were baked on Wednesday.  I don't mind baking at all, so I started wondering why.  I think baking is like putting chemistry and art class together.  I have to measure ingredients precisely.  And the reaction of ingredients makes some sort of end product.  Bread making involves kneading and shaping of the dough just like playing with play-dough.    I like science and art classes therefore I like baking.  But I don't like cooking~~~~!!!! How can make cooking more fun?

土作り Enriching the Soil

 見て下さい、この土。粘土質で硬くって何を植えても元気に育ちません。
Take a look of this soil.  It's so clay like and hard.  Nothing has grown so well.

 そこで、助っ人達にお願いして、畑にコンポストを入れて混ぜてもらいました。
Therefore, I asked my assistants to put some compost into garden and mix.

少し土が緩くなりましたよ。今は台所の野菜くずなどを混ぜ込んでいます。早く良い土になってくれるといいなー。トマトや苦瓜を植えたいので。。

Now the soil is a little loosened up and I am putting more kitchen wastes into it.  Hope the soil will improve soon, so I can start planting tomatoes and bitter squash etc..

アシスタント My assistants

 今も義理の母がお料理をしてくれています。でも、ちょっと休憩してもらおうと思い、この日はケビンとリキにお願いしました。
My mother in-law is still doing all the cooking for us now.  But we wanted her to take a break, so I asked Kevin and Riki to do the cooking for us this day.

 赤ちゃんの頃からお料理を一緒にしてきた彼らのお料理の業はなかなかです！
Their cooking skills are very good because they've been cooking with me since they were babies.

この日は夏野菜たっぷりのスパゲッティー。美味しかったです。
They made spaghetti with a lot of summer vegetables that day.  It was delicious.

♡のクッション ♡ Pillow

アリゾナのお友達がこんな可愛らしい♡のクッションを送ってくれました。この♡ボランティアの方々の手作りだそうです。胸に入れるんじゃあないですよ！

A friend in Arizona sent me those charming heart shaped pillows.  Those pillows were handmade by volunteers.  They are not meant to put on my chest!

こうして腕の下に入れると、脇の下の痛みがちょっと緩和されて楽です。Mさん、ありがとう！

Putting those pillows like this helps ease the pain under my arm.  Thank you, Ms. M!

到着と開始 Arrived & Started

チャン家での大人気有名人よしあが上海の大学での夏期講習を終えて、土曜日にシンガポールへ到着。待ってましたーー！

The celebrity in Chan family, Joshua arrived in Singapore on Saturday after finishing his summer school at a university in Shanghai.  We'd been waiting for you~!

それから、月曜日に学校が始まりました。いよいよ恵敏も高校１年生！理輝は高校最後の年。
And the school started on Monday.  Now, Kevin is a freshman in high school!  And Riki is a senior, the last year of high school.
