ドリアン Durian

アジアの物を売っている食料品店に行ったら、冷凍ドリアンを発見。アメリカに引っ越して２年、ずっと食べてなかったので、早速お買い上げ。家に帰って四苦八苦してドリアンを割り、中身を頂きました。とても柔らかくクリーミーで甘くて美味しかった！冷凍だったせいか、特有の強い匂いもあまりありませんでした。というか。。その匂いに慣れてしまった私たちには気にならなかったけど、近所の人は何じゃこの臭い匂いは、なんて感じてたりして。。

I found frozen durians at an Asian grocery store. It's been two years since we moved back from Asia to the states and haven't had them ever since. So, I bought one to try. The husk was SO hard, but I managed to crack open it with a big Chinese knife. The flesh was so soft, creamy and sweet. It was delicious!!! It normally has very strong smell, but it didn't bother us much maybe because it was frozen or because we got so used to the smell. Hopefully, its strong stinky odour didn't bother our neighbors!

どうしても食べたい！ Food cravings!

気分が乗らないかな〜と思っていたら、今度はどうしても美味しいアイスクリームが食べたくなった。早速近くのアイスクリーム屋さんへ行って、美味しいアイスクリームをゲット。いや〜幸せ。\(^0^)/ 気分も落ち着いて満足。３００円のアイスクリームでこんなに幸せになれるなんて。。単純で安上がりな更年期中高年女。

After feeling low for a while, suddenly I had cravings for GOOD ice cream. Right away, I drove to nearby ice cream shop and got some GOOD ice cream. I felt so satisfied and settled. Yeah, happy \(^0^)/ Four dollar ice cream can make her so happy. What a simple economical menopausal middle-aged woman!

ミッドライフクライシス！ Midlife Crisis!

なんだか何にもやる気がしない。。かったる〜。。。色々考え込んじゃう。。どうしてかな〜〜〜？更年期かな？と思っていた時に、友達のメールに「ミッドライフクライシス（中高年の危機）」の一言。どういう意味かな？と早速ネットで検索。その症状の数々。。ぴったしカンカン！！！よく考えたら、私も立派な中高年！他にも同じ思いをしている人が沢山いると思ったら、頑張ろうと言う気になってきました！！中高年か〜〜(x_x)〜〜

I don't feel like doing anything, feel tired and think of things too seriously.. Why? Is this menopause? I found a word "midlife crisis" in my friend's email. Right away, I searched the word on the web and read the symptoms. BINGO! Yes, I am indeed a middle-aged woman!! I felt a bit better after knowing about "midlife crisis" and knowing that I am not alone.. Midlife~~~ (x_x) ~~~

痛って〜！Ouch!

切れた事にも気がつかず、見たら血が出てました。この包丁、切れ味抜群です。
I noticed some blood on my little finger. I even didn't know when I got a cut. This knife is SO sharp!

定年 Retiring

２７年間私と共に働いてきた包丁が本日定年退職いたしました。いつからか、とても切れ味が悪かったのですが、捨てるのは可哀相で、ずっと我慢して使っていました。でも先日きんぴらごぼうを作った時、切れ味の悪い包丁のために四苦八苦。肩も腕も手首も指も痛くなり、この度とうとう新物採用の決意。新しく買った包丁は、それはそれは切れ味が良く、今までの２０パーセントの力で物が切れます。ちょーらくちん。でも手を切らないように気をつけないと！

Today, the knife that had worked with me for 27 years retired. Its blade had been very dull for a long time, but I had been putting up with it because I felt sad to get rid of it. The other day, when I made "KIMPIRAGOBO", I struggled to cut burdock into juliennes. My shoulder, arm, wrist, and fingers were very sore, so I finally decided to get a new one. The new one I bought is SO sharp that requires only 20% of the strength I used to use to cut things with the old one. It's SO much easier. Now I'd better watch my fingers!

ペルセウス座流星群を見るために、庭にテントをはり、芝の上にダンボールをひいて、ずっと夜空を眺めていました。一番いい日,12/13日を逃してしまったけれど、１５個以上の流れ星を見る事が出来ました。とてもワクワクしました！テントで寝るのも楽しかったです。外は結構寒くって、厚いブランケットが必要でした。

We wanted to witness the Perseid meteor shower, so we set up a tent, laid some cardboard on the lawn and gazed at the stars. We missed the best day, August 12/13th, but we were able to see more than 15 shooting stars in the night sky. It was quite exciting. Sleeping in a tent was fun. It was quite cold and we had to use thick blankets.

結婚２０年！ Married for 20 years!

今日は２０回目の結婚記念日。いや〜、二人とも若かったですね。
Today is our 20th wedding anniversary. Wow, we were both young!

特別な事は何もしませんでしたが、頑張って、多分結婚して初めて、もしくは３回目？のポテトコロッケ作りに挑戦。コロッケは好きなんだけど、めんどうだからいつもお店で買っています。
We didn't do anything special, but I put effort to make some potato croquettes for the first time or maybe the third since we got married. I love croquettes, but it's too troublesome to make, so I always buy from a store.

今日は３種類作りました。カレー味、プレーン、そしてチーズ入りです。
I made three kinds today. Curry flavored, plain and cheese-filled.

ハッピ〜！Happy!

毎日の生活にちょっとした贅沢が加わりました。うれし〜！２４時間日本語放送が見られるテレビジャパンと契約。日本から帰ってきたら、日本の番組が見た〜いとの声が多かったので、毎月２５ドルを払ってちょっとした贅沢。良い感じ！
We added a little bit of luxury to our every day life. Yeah! We subscribed to TVJapan which offers 24/7 Japanese language TV programs. After we came back from Japan, everybody said that they wanted to watch Japanese programs, so we decided to pay $25 extra every month and enjoy a little of of luxury. SO nice!

涼しいわぁ〜。So much cooler.

昨日アメリカに帰ってきました。久しぶりの我が家は、なんだかちょっと他人の家にいるみたいな気がしました。テメキュラはすごく涼しくて、日本の暑さが嘘のよう。ちなみに今家の中は２４度。庭の花がとてもきれいに咲いて私たちを迎えてくれました。

We came back to US yesterday. Since we were gone so long, I felt like I was in somebody else's house. Temecula is SO much cooler and I cannot believe how HOT it is in Japan now. The temperature in our house now is 75F. Beautiful flowers in our backyard are in full bloom and are welcoming us back home.

２０１０年の夏 Summer 2010

夏休みもいよいよあと１週間。今年の夏休みもあっという間に過ぎてしまいました。楽しかった〜〜！
The summer break is only a week left. It has gone so fast. We had so much fun!
