野菜達 Vegetables

今日のお野菜。超巨大化してしまったズッキーニと。。。多くを語らずとも、皆様に色んな想像を働かしていただいたら楽しい大根。
Today's vegeies. Humongous zucchinies and ... very unique Japanese radish. I choose not to make any comment on this and rather let you enjoy making all sort of imagination, stories and pictures.

納期間近 Close to deadline.

しばらく前に出来上がっていたそれぞれの部分。この注文の納期が間近に迫った今。今日か明日中には仕上げないといけません。じゃあ作業に取りかかります。バイバイ。
Each parts were made a while ago. Now, the due for those orders are so close, I must complete them by today or tomorrow. I must go now...bye-bye..


今日は果物です。お分かりでしょう。キウイです。まだまだ小さくて赤ちゃんね。。。
Today is a fruit. You probably know it's "KIWI." They are still small babies..

いい匂い Nice scent

お日様の匂い？アメリカで洗濯物を外に干すという事はめったにありません。少なくとも私はしません。いつも乾燥機に入れてしまいます。だから、お日様の下で干した洗濯物の匂い、久しぶりです。とてもいい匂いですね。
The scent of the sunshine? People seldom dry laudries outside in America. Well, some might do, but I don't. I just put everything into the dryer. So, it's been a while since I smelled this nice scent of the sun-dried laundry. Very nice pleasant scent...at least to me..

本物は良い。Real stuff is good.

いや〜。美しいケーキを見るのも良いですが、やっぱり食べられるのはもっと良いです。昨日から我慢していたケーキへの食欲がやっと満たされてご満悦の私です。(^_^)
Well, it's nice to look at beautiful cakes, but it's even better when you can actually eat them. My craving for cakes since yesterday was finally met and I am so deeply satisfied. (^_^)

ケーキ Cakes

美味しそうでしょう！皆さんのお好みはどれ？見ていたらお腹がすいちゃった。。でも食べられないところがつらい。。。明日ケーキ屋さんに行って本物を買ってくるとしましょう。ちなみにこれ、私は作っていません。。。義妹が作りました。私はこの素晴らしい作品にちょう感動して写真を撮りまくりました。
Don't they look so delicious?! Which one is your favorite? Just looking at those made me so hungry but it's so sad that I cannot eat them. I must go to a cake shop to buy some real ones tomorrow. FYI, I didn't make them but my sister-in-law did. I was so deeply impressed by those wonderfully made cakes and went crazy about taking photos.

何？What?

庭で何やら制作活動開始。設計図は誰かの頭の中？何が出来るんでしょうか？そのうち明らかに。。
Some sort of production has started in the backyard. The design is in someone's head. What's going to be built? We'll see.

私は庭でベリー摘み。こちら「ジューンベリーケーキ」を製作。
I went picking the berries in the garden.
My production is this, "Juneberry cake."


今日のお野菜は「キャベツとトウモロコシ」トウモロコシの背丈の違いに気づきましたか？時期をあけて種まきをし、長期間の収穫を楽しむということのようです。
Today's vegies are "Cabbage and Corn." Did you notice the corn's difference in height? Planting the seeds at different times lets us enjoy the longer harvesting times.

追伸：歯の妖精は300円を枕の下に置いていってくれました。
P.S. The tooth fairy left 300 Japanese yen under the pillow.

抜けた。 Pull out.

着々と大人に近づいてきている。。。ケビンの歯が抜けた。日本での歯の妖精からのギフトの相場はいくらだろう？日本は歯の妖精なんて出てこないか。。。。明日の朝になればわかるでしょう。。。
One step closer to becoming adult. Kevin's tooth is out. What's the market price of a gift from the tooth fairy in Japan? Maybe, there isn't any tooth fairy in Japan.... He will find out tomorrow morning.

Today's vegetable from the garden here is zucchini.

美味しい！ Delicious!

とにかく、採りたて新鮮野菜や果物がおいしい。とても気に入ったのが、ジューンベリー。ちょっとブルーベリーみたい。これから時折実家の畑で採れる野菜を紹介していきましょう。
Just picked vegetables and fruits here are so fresh and delicious. One of my favorite is Juneberry. It tastes like blueberry. Maybe I will introduce some vegetables in my parents' garden time to time.

作業開始 Get started.

毎年恒例の玉ねぎの収穫の手伝いを開始しました。子供達はこの作業を通して忍耐を学び筋力もつきお小遣いも頂けます。
Our annual event, helping with the onion harvesting has started. Children learn perseverance, build muscles and earn some money from this job.

あっ。。それから、私の時差ぼけはすっかり治っちゃいました。えへへ。。。新しい環境への適応。。私の特技みたいです。。
BTW, the good effect of the jet lag is all gone. ha ha ....
I seem to have a gift of ... adjusting to the new environment.

時差ぼけ Jet lag

。。も悪くない。夕べは皆８時に就寝。今朝は実は４時半には目覚め、でも５時半までは布団の中で静かにして、それからお腹がすいて朝ご飯におやきをぱくり。
..not so bad. We all went to bed by 8 pm. last night. We woke up around 4:30am, but stayed quiet in bed till 5:30am. We got hungry, so we ate OYAKI (rocal food) for breakfast


それから外に出て早朝のとても新鮮な空気をいただきました。この私がこんなに朝早く起きてこんな健康的な生活を。この時差ぼけの良い影響はいつまで続くか？
　. and went outside to get some very fresh air of the early morning. ME, this Akiko got up SO early in the morning and live such a healthy life style.... Let's see how long this good effect of the jet lag can last?!!

日本から From Japan

いや〜〜。テメキュラの家を出てからおよそ２０時間。やっとのこらさで日本の実家に着きました。日本は緑がきれいだ！久しぶりにアジアに帰ってきたら、色んなものが凄く小さく見える。人も家も車も食べ物も。。。そして自分がちょっと背が高く感じる。。。
Well, about 20 hours after we left our home in Temecula, we FINALLY got home in Japan. It's SO GREEN here and so beautiful. I was away from Asia for a while and now came back here, everything looks SO small.... people, houses, cars, food... And I feel taller.

卒業式 Graduation

今週は理輝と恵敏の卒業式がありました。恵敏はその際、シチズンシップアワードなるものを頂きました。これは先生だけでなく同級生によって選ばれた生徒が頂ける賞です。同級生に選ばれたというのはとても光栄ですね。
追伸：月曜日には日本に着くぞぉ〜〜〜〜！！！うれしい〜〜〜！！次の記事は日本から！

There were Graduation ceremonies this week for Riki and Kevin. Kevin received Presidential Citizenship Award that time. This award is given to the students who were chosen not just by the teachers but by their classmates. I think it's such an honor to be chosen by their peers.
P.S. We will be in Japan on Monday!!! Yeah!! So Happy!!! The next post will be from Japan!!

頑張ったね Great Job

火曜日の晩に、理輝の中学校で表彰式がありました。各教科ごとに１年間努力し成績の良かった生徒には賞状が、そして特に優秀だった生徒にはたてが与えられます。何が与えられるかわからず出かけていった私は理輝の名前が何回も呼ばれてびっくり。理科と社会で賞状を、数学と家庭科（覚えてますか？理輝がボーナスポイントの為に色々と作った事）でたてを頂きました。そして、年間を通して全部Aの生徒がもらう、Honor Rollも頂きました。本当に良く頑張ったね。

There was a award ceremony at Riki's middle school on Tuesday evening. In each subject, the students received the certificates for their academic effort and success throughout the year and one student in each subject received a plaque for the excellence. I had no idea what he would get. It was such a pleasant surprise to hear his name being called a couple times. He received certificates for Science, Social Study and plaques for Math and Home economics (remember? he cooked all sort of stuff for extra points). He also received a plaque for Honor Roll--straight A for the entire year. Great job, Riki!

超ラッキー！ SO Lucky!

なんと、ケビンがオンラインゲームで遊んで、iPod nanoが大当たり！このiPod 彼のエージェントID入り。世界に一つのレアもの。超ラッキーな出来事に、超ハッピー！
Kevin played some online game and won an iPod nano!! This iPod has his Agent ID on it. One of a kind. So special! He is SUPER happy with this SUPER lucky event.

リラックス Relax

昨日は大人４人でサンディエゴのシーワールドへ。子供達は行きたくないと言い家で留守番。日差しは強かったもののそれほど暑くなくて気持ちの良い日でした。大勢の人が行き来する公園の中、一番リラックスして幸せそうな２匹。アザラシ君達はぽかぽかのお日様の下で気持ち良さそうにお昼寝していました。やっぱ、日曜の午後は昼寝だよなぁ〜。
Four of us, adults went to the Sea World San Diego yesterday. Kids didn't want to go, so they stayed home. The sun was strong, but it was a nice beautiful day as the temperature didn't go so high. I spotted two very happy relaxed creature.... A pair of sealions were taking a nap looking so comfortable in a warm afternoon. This is what I should be doing on Sunday afternoon.....Take a nap!

収穫 Harvest

２月の終わりに咲いていた花。桃の花かな？と思っていました。
This is the flower that was blooming in late February. I thought maybe it's the peach flower.


この度ネクタリンの花だったという事が判明いたしました。小さくて見た目は悪いのですが、とお〜〜ても甘いです。
It is finally clear that this was the Nectarine flower. Those Nectarines are small and don't look very pretty, but they are very sweet.

ヘアカット Haircut

最近髪の毛がぼさぼさでどうにもならなくて、しかも髪型もとてもつまらなくなってきて。。とうとう今朝急に思い立って朝一で髪を切りに。。
My hair was getting so unmanageable and I was getting so bored with the style. Suddenly this morning, I had the urge to go to get the haircut.

たけちゃんがいつも行っているラオス人がやっているお店で、しゃれた美容院というよりは、床屋さんと言った感じ。でも、とにかく髪を切りたかったので行った。ところが、とても上手で手際よく私はとても気に入ってハッピーに店をでました。ちなみにお値段は２５ドル。
I went to the shop that T.K. always goes. The lady in charge is from Laos. The shop looks more like a barber shop than a beauty salon. I didn't care. I just had to get my hair cut. She was very skillful, efficient and neat. I walked out the shop very happy! FYI, the price for this haircut is $25.

種まき Sowing seeds

裏庭の芝生にあちこち禿げた部分が増えてきました。これはいかん。子供達に頼んで少し耕してもらい芝の種をまいてもらいました。芽が出て緑の芝生に戻ると良いんだけどな。。。
The bold spots in our backyard lawn were increasing and that's not good! So, I asked boys to loosen up the soil and sow the seeds. Hopefully seeds will sprout nicely and we will have our pretty green lawn back.

Happy Birthday!

　　今日はたけちゃんのお誕生日。Today was T.K.'s birthday.

中国では誕生日に麺を食べると長生きするという言い伝えから、お母さん達が麺料理を作ってくれました。
In Chinese culture, they believe that eating noodles on the birthday promises long life, so the parents-in-law made noodle dish for T.K.

私はケーキ担当。友達からレシピを頂いて、ブルーベリーチーズケーキを作りました。タルト生地の部分に沢山アーモンドパウダーが入っているので、アーモンドクッキーのようにサクサクと美味しくて、チーズケーキとブルーベリーソースがまた良くあって、大好評。ケビンマッサージ店（後日紹介します）からマッサージ券のギフトをもらってハッピーなお父さんでした。
I was in charge of the birthday cake. I used friend's recipe and baked blueberry cheesecake. The crust uses a lot of almond powder and it tasted like delicous crispy almond cookies. The cheesecake and the blueberry sauce complement each other well and everybody loved the cake. Kevin who operates a massage business(will blog about this sometime) at home gave daddy a gift certificate for one time massage. Daddy was very happy!
