ティーポットカバー Teapot Cover

先週１週間は学校がお休みでした。お休みなのでついついだらだらとしてしまいました。せっかくの１週間で何の達成感も無いのが嫌だったので、昨夜これを 作ってみました。前から作ろうと思っていたティーポットカバーです。なかなか可愛くて使いかっても良いので満足です。明日からはまた学校が始まります。

The last week was school holiday.  Because it was holiday, I got SO lazy,  didn't do much and I wasn't happy about not accomplishing anything.  So, I made this teapot cover last night.  I've been wanting to make this for a while.   This turned out really cute and very functional.  Now I am feeling quite satisfied with my accomplishment and happy.   Schools are starting tomorrow.

エンゼルトランペット Angel's Trumpet

花好きの読者の方から昨日の花の名前を教えていただきました。「エンゼルトランペット」です。なんて可愛らしい名前なんでしょうね。それから、夜になると強い香りを放つんだそうです。夜まで待ってどんな香りかを検証しにいってみたいけど。。。どうしよう。。。泥棒と間違えられる危険が。。。

I received a comment from a reader who loves flowers and learned that the flower I posted yesterday is called "Angel's Trumpet."  What a lovely name!  He mentioned that it releases strong fragrance at night.  I want to actually go there and verify what kind of fragrance it is.  BUT... hmm.....there is a risk that they might think I am a burglar... What shall I do?

本当にきれ〜〜！こんな綺麗なものとの出会いが散歩の喜びですよね。

It's just so beautiful!!  Finding such a beautiful thing is the joy of taking a walk.

こたつじゃ〜〜！！！ KOTATSU~~!!!

テメキュラもいよいよ寒くなってきたので、こたつをだしました。こたつがあるだけで身体はもちろん、気持ちまでなんだかぬくぬく暖かい。やっぱりいいですね。日本の文化だよね。

It's getting cold in Temecula, so we set up a KOTATSU in our living room.  Those of you who are not Japanese probably got no idea what "KOTATSU" is.  It's a table with an electric heater attached to the underside of the table.  The table is covered with a futon and keeps our legs and body warm.  I love Kotatsu and just having it in the room warms my heart, maybe because it's a part of Japanese culture.

初雪 First Snowfall

先週末は雨でしたが月曜日には太陽と山の雪景色が顔を出しました。今年はちょっと早かったですね。私の過去のブログを見ると、去年は１２月１０日。一昨年は１２月２１日。地球温暖化じゃなくて寒冷化じゃないですか？！

Last weekend was rain, but the sun came out on Monday and so does the snow capped mountain.  It came a bit early this year.  Looking at my previous posts,  it came on Dec. 10 last year and Dec. 21 the year before that.   Maybe the earth is not warming, but cooling!?

サボテンの実 Cactus Fruit

こちら、サボテンの実。初めて買って食べてみました。


This is a cactus fruit.  I bought it and tried it for the first time.

中はこんなかんじで、小さな種みたいなものが沢山ありました。どんな味と言ったら良いのでしょうね。甘くてさっぱりしていて、台湾で沢山食べたドラゴンフルーツを思い出しました。

Inside looks like this.  There are many tiny seeds.  Its taste is hard to describe...  It was sweet and refreshing.  It reminded me of dragon fruits we had in Taiwan.

試作品 Experimenting

久しぶりにシフォンケーキが食べたくなり、だったら、最近お気に入りのきな粉を入れて作ってみたらどうだろうと思い、試してみました。ついでに、栄養価アップを狙い、すりゴマまで入れてみました。そして、抹茶のクリームをそえて頂きました。お味は？んんんん。。。。美味しかったけど、どちらかと言うと、バナナシフォンの方が美味しい！
I realized I hadn't made a chiffon cake for a while and I had a craving for it,  I decided to make one with my recent favorite item,  roasted soybean powder.  I added some sesame powder to make it even more nutritious.  We ate it with green tea flavored cream.  The taste??  Well... it was good, but we prefer banana chiffon over soybean+sesame powder chiffon.

予定帳 Planner

 予定帳用の新しいカレンダーを買いました。これは２８ヶ月のものです。最後のページは２０１２年の１２月です。それぞれのページがどんな予定で埋め尽くされるのかな〜〜？！！

I bought a calender refill for my planner.   This one is for 28 months.  The last page is for December, 2012.  I wondered what kind of plans will fill each page of this calender.   

ちなみに、この予定帳は、独身OL時代に新橋の文房具屋さんで買ったものです。かれこれ２０数年、まだまだ新品見たいでしょ。

BTW, this planner was purchased at a stationary shop in Shinbashi when I was still single and working.  It's been over 20 years since, yet it looks almost new, isn't it?!

ガレージセール Garage Sale

土曜日に近所の友達の家で合同ガレージセールをしました。朝６時から準備開始。７時前にはもうお客さんが来始めました。
We had a joint garage sale at my neighbor friend's house.  We started setting up things around 6am.  and people started coming even before 7am.

 その日の朝は空の朝焼けがとてもきれいでした。
We had a beautiful morning glow in the sky that morning.

熱気球も上がっていましたよ。
Hot air balloons were in the sky.

 シンガポールで買ったポケバイクも売ってしまいました。
ガレージセールは大盛況でした〜！

We sold the pocket bike we bought in Singapore. 
The garage sale was a great success.

ケーキ教室 Cake Class

今日はケーキ教室！お友達がババロアケーキの作り方を教えてくれました。チョコレートのスポンジの間にババロアが挟まれているケーキです。美味しくて皆がとっても幸せ〜になりました。

We had a cake class today.  A friend showed us how to make a Bavarian cream cake.  It's actually a chocolate sponge cake with Bavarian cream filling.  It was very good and made everyone happy! (^_^)

ジュリアン Julian

 先週、テメキュラから車で１時間ほどの所にある、ジュリアンと言う小さな街へ行ってきました。この街は林檎栽培がとっても有名です。
I visited a little town called Julian last week.  It's about an hour drive from Temecula.  The town is  famous for its apple crop. 

 このレストランで食べたアップルパンプキンパイがとっても美味しかったので、お土産に買って帰りました。
The Apple Pumpkin Pie I ate at this restaurant was really good, so I bought one to bring home.

 あまりに美味しくて、写真を撮るのを忘れていましたが、最後の一口の前に思い出しましたよ！
It was so good that I almost forgot to take a picture, but I remembered to take one before the last bite!  

 こちらは林檎ジュース。とても濃厚でした。
This is Apple Cider.  It was very rich.

街には小さなお店が沢山。こちらの可愛いさんはネコヤナギでできたふくろう。その時、ふくろうを集めている誰かさんを思い出したのでちょっと写真を撮ってみました。
There were many little shops.  This cute guy was an owl made with pussy willow.  This reminded me of someone who's collecting owls, so I decided to take its photo.
