新しいテレビ New TV

新しいテレビが届いた。今回Amazon（ネット通販）でテレビを買った。なぜか消費税を払わずに済んだ。５０インチのパナソニックHDプラズマテレビ。

Our new TV was delivered yesterday. We bought this from Amazon and saved tax. It's a 50 inches Panasonic VIERA Plasma HDTV.


さっそく友達に借りた３Dの映画なんかも見てみた。３人ちょっと笑える．．．
Kids watched 3D movie we borrowed from a friend. They look a bit funny or cool?!

染め Dye

クロスステッチを始めるにあたり、ちょとアンティークっぽさを出す為に、紅茶で布を染めてみた。１０年以内には終えたい計画ですが．．．どうなることか？？？押し入れには、１５年前に始めた物が寝ている。。。

I am starting a cross-stitch project and I wanted to have an antique look to it, so I dyed the fabric with black tea. I am hoping to finish this at least within 10 years. Let's see how it goes.... I have another one sitting in a closet which I started 15 years ago.

甘い誘惑。 Sweet Temptation.

柔らかくて口の中でとろっととろける生チョコ。。。そして小豆と抹茶クリームのロールケーキ。どれもとっても美味しいんだけど。。。。体重に気をつけないと！

The Chocolate Truffles that is so soft and melts so gently in your mouth.... and Maccha(Greentea) sweet red bean cream roll. Everything is so delicious, but I'd better watch my weight!!!

Here is the recipe for the very easy heavenly chocolate truffle.

Chocolate 400g (I used half milk chocolate and half dark chocolate)
heavy cream 200ml
cocoa powder

Heat the heavy cream (don't boil!) and melt the chocolate in it. Line a shallow container with cling film, pour the mixture in and smooth the surface. Cover with more cling film and put it in the fridge or even freezer untill it gets solid. Cut it into small cubes and toss them with some cocoa. Keep them in the fridge.

編み物 Crochet

安くてカラフルな色の毛糸を買ってきました。何を作ろうかなとワクワクしますね。とりあえず、お花を４つ作りました。実はこれ、あるものの一部です。さて、何を作っているのでしょう？！

I bought some cheap colorful yarns. It's exciting to think about what to make. So far, I made four flowers. Actually, those are part of something... Guess what I am making?!

メリークリスマス Merry Christmas!

今日はとてもインターナショナルな持ち寄りパーティー。台湾、インド、メキシコそして私たち（香港と日本）の家族。見て下さい、この豊かな食事。豚肉も鶏肉もそれぞれ違った香味で料理されていてとても興味深かったです。どれもとても美味しかった！！

We had a very international potluck party today. We had families from Taiwan, India, Mexico and us(Hong Kong & Japan). look at all these varieties of food. It was interesting that we had pork and chicken all cooked in different flavors. They were all delicious!!

とてもスペシャル So special

昨夜ケビンが家庭科の時間に習ったマフィンを作ってくれました。とっても美味しかった！全部食べちゃう前に、朝食用にと１つ１つに名前入り予約の旗。彼のやることはとてもスペシャル。(^o^)

Kevin baked the muffins he learned at school during home economics. They were so good! He decided that he puts names on each muffins before we finish to save them for breakfast. Things he does are always so special. (^o^)

誕生からおよそ５ヶ月。あのチョコバナナちゃんのどちらかが卵を産みました！！！
It's been about five months since their birth, Choco or Banana laid an EGG!!

腹巻き Tummy Warmer

私はお腹が冷えるので、腹巻きを編んでみました。帽子としても使えます！あったか〜〜！

My tummy gets cold, so I knitted a tummy warmer. I can wear it as a cap, too. So warm!!

食べたい！！ Food craving!

どうしてもかる〜くて美味しいチーズケーキが食べたくなった。日本食の店で見つけたんだけど高い！！だったら自分で作るしかない！ということで、昨夜スフレチーズケーキを作りました。きゃ〜〜！！！！めちゃうま〜〜〜！！！もうふわっと口の中で溶けてくよう！満足！

I had a craving for some delicious & light cheesecake. I found some at a Japanese grocery store, but they were expensive!! It left me no choice, but to make one myself and I did. I made two souffle cheesecakes last night. SO DELICIOUS!! It was so light and so fluffy and melted in my mouth. Ahhh, so satisfied!

何してる？ What's up?

テレビなしといえども、コンピューターが。。だからあまり不憫を感じてないみたい．．。。ボードゲームをしたり、トランプしたり、ピンポンしたり、取っ組み合いをしたり、料理したり、。。。楽しくやってます。

We got no TV, but we got COMPUTERS, so we don't feel so lost.... We play board games, cards, Ping-Pong, wrestling and cooking and so on.... having fun!

子供のランチ Kids' Lunch

超珍しくこんな寿司ロールを子供のランチに作ってあげました。どうりでまた雨です。「お前のお母さんは朝からこんな時間のかかるものを作ってくれるのか！」と。。。学校でお友達が感動したそうです。今日は焼きそば２回目を作りました。天気は小雨です。

This is very rare..... I made this Sushi roll for kids' lunch. That explains the rain we had again this week. Some kids told my son, "WOW, your mom made this in the MORNING?!!" They were impressed. I made friend noodle for lunch today for the second time. The weather...liight rain...

雪景色 Snow capped mountains

月曜日は大雨。そして火曜日には少しずつ雲が晴れて青空が戻ったら、遠くの山には白い雪がかぶっていました。信州の冬の風景を思い出します。
Monday was heavy rain. On Tuesday, the clouds started to move away and the blue sky started to show. Then, there were beautiful snow capped mountains in the distance. They reminded me of the winter scenery in Shinshu(Nagano, Japan where I grew up.)

メキシコ 食事編 Mexico-Food

旅行と言ったら、観光も良いですが、食事ですよね。さすが現地を熟知しているお友達。どれもローカルの人に人気のあるレストランで、何を食べてもとても美味しかったです。しろいご飯が恋しくならなかったぞ！
When you talk about traveling, sightseeing is a part of it, but the food is very important to us!! Thanks to our Mexican friends who know the area SO well. They are the locals and they know all the good local reastaurants there. All the food we had were so good that I didn't miss my Japanese rice!

こちら大人気の魚とエビのメキシカンタコス屋さん。小さい店ですが、BMWに乗ってるようなお金持ちまでくるほど美味しい。。。
This one is a famous? Fish and Shrimp Taco shop. It's a small shop, but it's SO good that even some rich person with BMW comes to eat!

This restaurant was so popular that there was a line outside. Decoration was so colorful and pretty.

壊れた Broken

夕べ突然テレビが壊れました。音声は大丈夫なのですが、画像がだめです。週末までテレビを買いにいく時間がないので、今朝からテレビなしの生活が始まりました。このことが私たちの生活にどんな変化をもたらすでしょうか？

All the sudden, our TV broke last night. Audio is OK, but the video is not. We won't have time to go to buy a TV until this weekend, so TVless life started this morning. What changes would this bring to our lives?

完成 Finished

ラグキルトが完成いたしました。とても簡単に出来て、そのわりに可愛くて、私は大変気に入りました。
The rag quilt is completed! It's very simple, but cute and I really like it.

切った縫い代が洗濯後可愛らしく変化しました。
The seams I cut turned really cute after the wash.

裏も思ったより可愛く仕上がりました！
The reverse side looks much better than I expected.

キルト Rag Quilt

女の子の赤ちゃんへの贈り物に超久しぶりにキルトブランケットを作ることにしました。今回は初めてラグキルトなる物に挑戦。家にあった材料を使い、わりと簡単に2, 3時間で出来たのですが．．．見てくださいこの糸くず。表に出した縫い代をハサミでチョキチョキ．これからこれを洗濯して出来上がりです。どうなるかな？結果は明日！

I cannot remember when is the last time I quilt. I needed a gift for a baby girl and I decided to make a rag quilt for the first time. I used the materials I had at home. It was fairly easy and was done in a couple hours, but look at all this mess!! Now I am going to wash and dry it. How it's gonna look? You will see the result tomorrow!!

メキシコ:行程 Mexico: Route

こちらが今回の全行程。サンディエゴからティワナ、ラルモロサ、テカテ、エンセナダそして帰宅。今回の１泊２日の旅行はメキシコ人のお友達が全て計画してくれ、車の運転もしてくれました。私たちだけだったら無理でしたね．どうもありがとう！

This is the route we took during this trip. San Diego, Tijuana, La Rumorosa, Tecate, Ensenada and back home. This one night 2days trip was all arranged by our Mexican friend and they volunteered to drive as well. No way we could have done this on our own. Thanks to them!


車で国境を越えた私たちはティワナでメキシコスタイル朝食。国境ではパスポートをチェックされることもありませんでした。
We acrossed the border in our cars and had nice Mexican style breakfast in Tijuana. Nobody checked our passport at the border.

ちなみにこの日は雨！！前回降った雨は覚えてますか？あの日。。初めて車にワックスをかけた次の日ですよ！！そして、今回初めてのメキシコへの旅。あ〜〜、普段しないことするとこうなるんですかね？？

BTW, this day was rain. The last time we had rain was the day after we waxed our car for the first time, Remeber??!! And now this day was the day we went to Mexico for the first time. Grrrrrrrrrr.... all because we'd done something we seldom do??

え？ What?

今日はもう１１月最後の日。あっと言う間に時が過ぎてしまって信じられませんね。今月ブログした回数は今までで最低の６回。この一ヶ月いったい何をしてたのかしら？？？　んんん。。。。。。。

Today is the last day of November. I cannot believe how fast the time has passed. My posting for this month was only 6 times which is the least ever. What did I do this month??? Hmmmmmm.......


さて、先週末に初めてメキシコに行ってきました。今週はこの話でブログをいたしましょう。とにかく今日は洗濯、掃除、食料品の買い物に出かけないと！！

BTW, we went to Mexico for the first time. This week's blog will be about this trip. For now, I need to go to do laundry, cleaning and grocery shopping!!

どうして？ Why?

最近どうしてブログの更新回数が減ったかというと．．．．あることに時間を取られるようになったからですね．それがこちらのネットのゲーム、Farmville 。アメリカ版の「みんなの農場」とでもいったところでしょうか。野菜や花、果物や家畜を育てています。いつ辞めようかとも考えているんだけど．．．

Why my posting is not as frequent as it used to be??...., it's because something else is consuming more of my time. It's "Farmville." It's a virtual online game. I grow vegies, flowers, fruits and have some farm animals, too. I love farming, but sometimes I'm thinking of when should I be retiring. Do you want to be my neighbor in Farmville?

フレンドシップブランケット Friendship Crochet Blanket

友達１０人ちょっとが参加して、グラニースクエアのブランケットを編むことにしました。とりあえず皆３０枚ずつ編もうということで、編み始めました。後でそれぞれが２枚のスクエアを交換します。１月に皆で集まって交換することになっています。こちらが私のグラニースクエア。家にあった残り毛糸を使ったので、選択の余地もなくこんな配色になりました。

A little over 10 friends got together and decided to make granny square blankets. We decided that each person crochets 30 squares for now. Later each will exchange two squares with others. We'll get together again in January to do the exchange. This is my granny square. I'm trying to use up all the yarns at home, so the color arrangement is not my ideal one...but they still look pretty, I think...

お久しぶりです Long time no see.

久しぶりのチョコちゃんとバナナちゃんです。本当に大きくなりました。こんな風にニワトリと遊ぶ子供達。。。あまり見かけませんよね．．．幸せなニワトリ達ですね。ちなみに、まだ卵は生んでいません．

It's been a while since I blogged about Choco and Banana. They are so big now. You don't see kids playing with hens very often.. They are two lucky hens. By the way, they haven't laid any eggs yet.

こちらは、日本の姪っ子記者から送られてきた写真。なんて芸術的に仕上がったゆで卵なんでしょう！！

歴史 History

数日前にカールスバッドに住むお琴のお友達の家を訪問しました。彼女は日系２世のご主人と結婚してアメリカに移住してこられた７９才の日本人。美味しい御馳走を頂きながら色んな日系移民の方々の歴史 や彼女の歩んできた人生の話を聞かせていただきました。本当にたくさんの苦労を重ねてこられたのですね。

A few days ago, I visited a friend from Koto group who lives in Carlsbad. She is a 79 years old Japanese lady who married to a second generation Japanese and moved to the states. She prepared a wonderful meal and shared the history of Japanese immigrants and the story of the life which she had lived. She had gone through so much hardship... so much....

健康食 Healthy food

この頃よく作る、小魚くるみごまの飴からめ。子供達も私もカルシウムをたっぷり補給できるし、おやつに最高です。私が好きなレシピは砂糖と蜂蜜とお水少々を鍋で溶かして、魚とクルミとごまをからめるもの。おいしいですよ。

I often make this caramelized sugar coated small fish with walnuts and sesame lately. This provides a lot of calcium for kids and me and is perfect for snack. The recipe I like uses sugar, honey and a bit of water. Melt them in a pan and add the fish, walnuts, and sesame into the pan and mix well. Tasty!

豆乳 Soy Milk

昨日豆乳を作りました。やっぱり自分で作る豆乳の方が濃厚で美味しいです。副産物のおからは今回ハンバーグの種になりました。

I made soy milk yesterday. Home made soy milk is much thicker and tastier. The by-product, soy pulp was used for making hamburger.

柿 Persimmon

お友達から庭で取れたという立派な柿をいただきました。コスコでみかんとポメロ（ザボンみたい）もでていました。早速買って食べてみました。甘くて美味しい。あ〜、秋冬だな〜って感じがします。かと思うと、夏の果物、スイカやメロン、マンゴーも売っていて、果物の好きな私にはとても嬉しいことです。

A friend gave me some really nice persimmons she picked in her backyard. At Costco, I found some mandarin oranges and pomelos. I bought some and tried right away. They were really nice and sweet. Ahhhh, those fruits remind me of fall and winter season... Yet, the summer fruits such as watermelons, cantalopes and mangos are still available and that's a good news for a person like me who loves fruits.

お琴おさらい会 Koto Performance.

週末に、年に一度の発表会がありました。もう、ちょオオオオオオ緊張して、演奏しながら指の震えているのをどうしようかと考えていました！　練習の賜物かな。。。最終的にちょっとのミスで済みました。

There was an annual Koto Performance this weekend. I was SO nervous and concerned about controlling my shaky fingers during my performance. In the end, I was able to finish the song with little mistake. My daily effort was rewarded.

終わったとたんにほっとしてその後のランチは食が進んだこと！！

I felt a great relief from the moment I finished my performance and I had such a good appetite for lunch afterwards!!
