。 First time ....

We arrived in Matsumoto, Japan early this week.
Riki is going to Doshisha University in Kyoto from September.  As for his very first step to prepare himself for the college life in Japan, he opened his bank account.  Of course, the application form had to be filled in Japanese.  Riki was in a bit of trouble... he couldn't write Katakana!  He never studied Japanese.  He never lived in Japan.  He could carry daily conversations, but I am not sure how he can handle complicated matters in Japanese alone.  He could read Kanji(Chinese characters) with Chinese prononciations since he completed Chinese AP, but I don't know how much Kanji he could read with Japanese prononciations..

Cooking lessons

Joshua moved out of his dorm and decided to live in an apartment with his friends from this summer, which  means that he has to do the cooking.  Since his grandparents are very good cook,  he decided to take some cooking lessons from them.

First,  the dumplings!

This is water melon skin.

The skin was used for soup.

This is the roast pork.  Marinade the pork with skin with soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, salt and pepper.  Flip the meat every half an hour for a few times so that the flavor will go into the meat.  Drain the marinade sauce and put the meat in refrigerator uncovered for one to two nights.  This dries the pork skin and makes the nice crispy roast pork.  Roast the meat in 150C oven for 20min and change the temperature to 200C and roast for 10min. until the skin gets crispy.  It's very delicious!

This is jackfruit.  I don't like the smell, but the taste is OK.  It tastes like fruit flavored chewing gum.  After eating couple times, I started liking it.

80th Birthday

Father-in-law's 80th birthday celebration.

We had a roast piglet.  This photo doesn't look quite appetizing, but it was delicious.

The pig is a symbol of wealth and riches from it's look in Chinese culture.  It also symbolizes fertility and many blessings as it give birth to many piglets.  A roast piglet is a must-have dish for a celebration.
BTW,  the gold pig necklace is for the bride to wear during the wedding!!

First, we had Dim Sum.  We ate a lot.

Then, we had our favorite Hong Kong desserts, turtle jelly and mango sago.

After we ate a lot, we walked a lot.

Who would wear this gold necklace, and even so, when would they wear it?

。 Unexpected..

The other day, I asked Kevin to sort out the vitamines by its' kinds and line them up.  Then I got this.  Well, it was a bit different from what I expected, but they were lined up by its' kinds.
Maybe, he likes to stack things up.  Please click here to see what happened in the past.

Arrived in Hong Kong!

We arrived in Hong Kong.  Joshua flew from Los Angeles and joined us at Hong Kong International Airport.  Their heights were pretty much the same, since Kevin grew a lot taller this year. They look like triplets.  They carried all the luggages, so I just needed to follow them.  It's so different from how it used to be 10 years ago.

Last post from Singapore

Those are aerogrammes.  I intended to write to many friends and bought 10 of those when we just moved to Singapore.  We are now departing Singapore in less than nine hours.  I must hurry up and finish writing.

Today, we did a lot of cleaning as well.  As I was cleaning the refrigerator, I thought of doing some experiment.  Could I hide myself in the fridge and get chilled?  The racks for the juice were sticking out and couldn't get the door closed!

We worked until 7pm and finally checked into a hotel.

Facebook

I started using Facebook in 2007.  And finally yesterday, my hubby decided to join the FB.  But he, a senior vice president of a company was so ignorant when it came to FB and was asking me, a stay-at-home-mom a bunch of basic questions about how to set up privacy and use Facebook etc.  Did I earn some respect?!!

Cooking Class

I joined a cooking class last week.  I had SO much fun!

All the ingredients were measured and presented very nicely.

This was for chimichurri sauce.  It was GOOD!

Making salad dressing.

Cornbread.

My lunch on that day!  Beautiful presentation!

The beautiful table settings!!

Finishing with cookie, fruits and a cup of tea.

I didn't help with the cleaning...  I just took a picture..

Conclusion.  Cooking could be fun if you did it together with some people!!  It's so boring because I normally has to do it alone in the kitchen.  When kids were little, they used to come into the kitchen and always wanted to help with something.  In those days, the cooking was a bit more fun.

Snowman?

What are you doing here now???? 😅🤣🤣🤣🤣
