恵敏のおごり Kevin's Treat

毎日の晩ご飯の皿洗いと週に一回のカーペットの掃除は恵敏の仕事。それで彼は１週間に２５ドル稼ぎます。
Kevin washes the dishes every night after dinner and vaccumes the carpet everywhere in the house once a week.  And he earns 25 dollars a week.

最初はクリスマスの日にお寿司をおごってくれると言っていたのですが、その日そのお店はお休み。代わりに、ベトナム料理の晩ご飯をおごってくれました。とても気前が良くって優しい彼のお陰で、父と母とお兄ちゃんはと〜っても幸せ気分。
At first, he was going to take us to a Sushi restaurant for Christmas dinner , but the restaurant was closed on that day, so he treated us with Vietnamese dinner.  He's such a generous giver and made daddy, mommy and big brother so happy!

こちらは、先月始めた３０日だけの挑戦の報告です。チャレンジ達成しました。効果は？？よくわかりません。。。でも、３０日続いたと言う事が私にとってはすごい事です！

This is the final report of the 30 days challenge I started last month.  I did complete the challenge.  Any effect??  I don't know...  But the fact I continued to do something for 30 days was really a big accomplishment for me.

ゴルフ〜！ Golfing~!!

 週末にたけちゃんとゴルフに行ってきました。前回コースに出たのは１０年位前に台湾に住んでいた時の事。そして、今回のゴルフの安い事、大特価の15ドル（1500円位）

T.K. and I went golfing on the weekend.  The last time I went golfing was about 10 years ago when we lived in Taiwan.  We got very good deal on fee.  It was only 15US dollars!

ドライバーでグリーンにワンオン！この日のベストショットでした。最終スコアは１２０以上でしたけどね。沢山練習できたし、楽しかったからオッケー！

I used driver and the ball landed on the green!  The best shot of that day.  The total score was over 120, but it's OK.  I got to practice a lot and had a really good time.

何が楽しかったって、人がなくしたボールを見つける事。自分の古いボールを三つ四つ無くしたんですけど、その代わりに新しい物やカラフルなボールを１０個以上も見つけました。良い一日だったなー。フェアウェイを外れる事が多かったからこんなにも見つかったんでしょうね！（笑）

What I enjoyed the most was to find other people's lost balls.  I probably lost 3 or 4 old balls, but I collected more than 10 new and some colorful balls.  It was a good day.  Maybe I found so many lost balls because I went off the fairway so often!  LOL

足湯 Foot Bath

カリフォルニアには、沢山温泉があるんです。

There are quite many hot springs in California.

家から車で２０分くらいの所にも温泉があります。昔はマリエッタホットスプリングスパリゾートでした。今はカルバリ聖書学校になっています。

There is one within 20 min drive from our house.  This place used to be Murrieta Hot Spring Spa Resort, but now it's Calbary Chapel Bible College.

 時々そこの大学のキャンパスで友達とお茶をするのですが。今日は、そこで買ったドリンクを持って、外の温泉に向かいました。
I meet up with my friend at the coffee shop on campus sometimes, but today we bought some drink at the shop and went out to the hot spring.

 足湯〜〜！！！

Foot bath~~~~!!!

今日の気温は１５度くらいでした。結構寒かったんですけど、足湯をしていたら、身体がぽっかぽかになりました。一日足が暖かかったです。温泉最高！！！
Today's temperature was about 60F.  It was quite chilly, but our body got really warm after soaking our feet in the hot spring for a while.  And my feet were warm all day long.  I love hot spring!!!

超簡単料理 Super Easy Cooking

こちらは、ほうれん草一袋。

This is a bag of spinach.

 よく見たら、穴も開けずにこのまま電子レンジでチンして料理して良いとの事。

Looked carefully.  The spinach could be cooked in the microwave without piercing the bag.

 本当かなー？

Really?  

 袋は爆発しなかったー。

The bag didn't pop.

 ほうれん草はいい具合にゆで上がってます。

The spinach was nicely steamed.

このプラスチックの袋の中で料理して、健康への影響は分かりませんが、味は良かったですよ。アメリカには色々と便利なものがありますね。

I don't know about the health effect of cooking in this plastic bag, but the taste was fine.  There are so many convenient things in US.

感謝祭のお食事 Thanksgiving Dinner

こちらは典型的なアメリカの感謝祭のディナー。

This is the typical Thanksgiving dinner in America.

こちらは私達がお友達の家で一緒に食べた感謝祭のディナーの御馳走。メンバーは中国人と日本人だけでした。写真見たら分かりますよね？！(^_^)

This is the Thanksgiving dinner we had at my friend's house.  The party consisted of only Chinese and Japanese.  Maybe you can guess that from this picture?!  (^_^)

あ。。それから、こちら水煎包。食べたくなったので、また作りました。美味しかった！
Oh...this is Shui Jian Bao.  I missed the flavor so much, so I made it again.  It was GOOD!

Riki's hobby is photography.  He has been taking many pictures since he moved to Kyoto and posting them on Facebook.  I'd like to share the three of my favorites from the recent photos.  They are truly beautiful.

肉まん Pork Buns

何年ぶりかに肉まんを作りました。テメキュラも随分寒くなったので、キッチンの暖まるオーブン料理や蒸し物をしたくなります。前回作った時には、こんなに上手にふわふわに膨らまなかったのですが、今回は大成功！手作り饅頭は美味しい！次回はみそ茄子でやろう！今回使ったレシピはこちら。

I hadn't made pork buns for a long time.  But now the weather in Temecula getting much colder and I like using oven and steamers that makes the kitchen warmer.  The last time I made them, they weren't as fluffy as these.  This time was very successful.  They were very good!  I will make with Miso and eggplant filling next time.  Yummy!!

お父さん銀行 Daddy Bank

我が家では今までお父さん銀行が子供達の貯めたお金を預かっていました。しかしケビンが本物の銀行口座を開設したので、お父さんは、お父さん銀行を閉鎖する事にしました。

In our family, the Daddy Bank kept all the children's savings for them.  But as Kevin opened a real bank account, daddy decided to close the Daddy Bank.

祝：初白髪染めー！ First attempt at dying my gray hair!

これだけあると、抜ける数ではなくなって来た白髪。ということで、初めて白髪染めをする決意をしました。

Just as you can see, there are too many gray hairs now that I cannot keep pulling them out.  So, I decided to dye my gray hair for the first time.

ふむふむ。。どうなるか？辛抱強く待つ。。。

Hmmm.....let's see how it would turn out?  Waiting patiently....

初めてにしては上出来です。何れ位持つかな？

Job well done for the first time.  I wondered how long this can last?!

ルバーブ Rhubarb

ルバーブをご存知ですか？ご存じない方はこちらのサイトを読んでみてください。テメキュラでは、土曜日と水曜日の午前中にファーマーズマーケットが開かれます。ファーマーズマーケットのお野菜や果物は生産者の方々が直接売りにくるので、とっても新鮮です。それから、その方達と直接話ができるのもとっても良いです。

Do you know Rhubarb?  If you don't know, please go to this site and read about it.  In Temecula, Farmer's Markets open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.  The vegetables and fruits are sold by their growers, so they are all fresh.  And I really like the opportunity to be able to meet and chat with them.  

水曜日にルバーブを市場で見つけて嬉しくて買って来ました。このお野菜はちょっと酸っぱいですが、デザートにするととっても美味しいんですよ。こちらはルバーブケーキ。

I was so excited to find Rhubarb at the market this Wednesday, so I bought some.  This vegetable is a little bit sour, but it makes really good desserts.  This is Rhubarb cake.  

私がルバーブを好きになったのは、カナダにいるお友達が焼いてくれたこちらのルバーブのお菓子がきっかけ。今日はルバーブが足りなかったので、冷凍のベリーミックスを足しました。美味しかったです。

The reason I learned about this vegetable and started liking it was because of the Rhubarb dessert baked by my friend in Canada.  Today, I didn't have enough Rhubarb, so I added some frozen mixed berried.  It was delicious.

Rhubarb Dessert

Base

2 cup          Flour

4 table spoon   Sugar

3/4 cup        Butter / Margarine (softened)

Mix and press into the bottom of 13 x 9 pan, bake at 375F for 15 minutes.

Filling

2                     Eggs

1 1/2 cups     Sugar

1/4 cups       Flour

3/4 tsp        Baking powder

3 cups        Rhubarb  (if you cannot find Rhubarb, maybe you can use berries or green apple?!)

Mix and put on top of the baked crust. Return into the oven and bake for 35 minutes.

頭痛の原因 The reason for my headache.

こちらは、テメキュラのワイン！マスカットの香と味で甘いのですが美味しい。でもこのところこれを飲むと頭痛が。。。

This is the wine from Temecula.  It has sweet taste and flavor of moscato grape and nice.  But I get headache lately when I drink this wine.

これはお友達が持って来てくれた赤ワイン。私はあまりお酒を飲める人ではないので、滅多に飲まないのですが、ある時から赤ワインを飲むと頭痛がするようになりました。

This is a red wine given by a friend.  I cannot take much alcohol, so I don't drink very often.  But one day, I started having headache when I drink red wine.

最近原因がやっとわかりました。これです！！SULFITES：亜硫酸塩。頭痛はこれに対するアレルギー反応であったようです。
I finally found out the reason for my headache.  It's this, SULFITES.  It seems that the headache was my allergic reaction to this compund.

３０日間だけ、第２弾。Next 30 days, Part 2.

本当に、自己訓練のない私。でも、今日から「３０日間だけ」の新たな挑戦を始める事にしました。それはこちら。。「毎日３０秒だけ逆立ちをする」です。さて、この挑戦は成功するでしょうか？そして、３０日後には私のおっぱいも、お尻も、顔も全部引っ張り上げられていると良いんですけどー。(^O^)

I am so not sel-disciplined.  But, I am starting a new challenge for "the next 30 days."  It is this, "A handstand for 30 seconds every day. "  Would I succeed?  We shall see.  Hopefully, my breast, hips, face and everything would be lifted up after 30 days!  (^O^)

郵便 Postal mails

先週と今週は郵便箱にお手紙が届きました。近頃は広告のメールか請求書くらいしか受け取る事がないので、普通郵便で送られて来た手書きのカードがすっごく嬉しかったです。送ってくれた皆さんありがとう！

I received a few postal mails in the mailbox last week and this week and that made me very happy!  We only receive junk mails and bills in the mailbox nowadays, so I really appreciated those handwritten cards sent by regular postal service.  Big thanks to those who sent me those precious cards.

カタリーナ島 Catalina Island

５０歳の誕生日のギフトは、カタリナ島への旅行でした。

The gift for my 50th birthday was the trip to Catalina Island.

 私達が訪れたのはアバロンと言う街。

The place we visited was the city of Avalon.

お誕生日にこの島を訪れるといくつかの特典があります。まずは、島への往復フェリー切符を無料で頂きました。

When you visit the island on your birthday, you get some birthday privileges.  First, I got a free round-trip ferry ticket to the island.

 こちらのお店では、無料のアイスクリームを頂きました。

I got a free ice cream at this shop.

滞在のホテルでは無料のシャンパンを頂きました。ちなみにこれは家に持ち帰りました。
I received a bottle of champagne from the hotel we stayed.  FYI, I brought it back home.

 さて、島でのアクティビティーでなんと言っても一番楽しかったのはこちら、Zip Line。
Now, the favorite activity we did on the island was this one, Zip Line.

 カートをかりて、アバロンの街めぐり。

We rented a cart and went around the town of Avalon.

 晩ご飯の後は、こちらの劇場で映画観賞。映画の前にとっても美しい音色のパイプオルガンの演奏もありました。８０年以上も昔に建てられたこの建物の中の壁画はオリジナルのままで、とっても綺麗でした。この建物がとっても心地よくて、映画半分の所で眠りに落ちてしまいました。。。
After dinner, we went to see a movie at this theater.  There was a pipe organ performance before the movie and its sound was beautiful.  The painting on the wall inside of this building which was built over 80 years ago was the original and it was beautiful.  It was so comfortable sitting inside of this building, I fell asleep in the middle of the movie.

大好きなお日様のしたでの昼寝も堪能。

I also enjoyed my favorite activity, afternoon nap under the sunshine.

 よしあのマッサージは最高！

Joshua's massage is the BEST!

 地中海の小さな街に来たようです。

We felt like we came to a little town of Mediterranean Sea.

 海の水がとっても綺麗で、沢山オレンジの魚が泳いでいました。

The ocean water was so clear and we could see so many orange fish.

お見せ出来る写真がないのですが、素敵なエアーショーもありました。すごく楽しい週末でした。
I don't have any picture to show, but there was a very nice airshow.  It was a very wonderful weekend.
