フレンドシップキルト Friendship Quilt

 今週13人のお友達と布を交換。色んな色や柄の布が集まりました。
I exchanged fabrics with 13 friends this week and got many pieces in different colors and patterns.

そして今日は朝から作業にとりかかりました。まずは布一枚一枚を縫いつなげていきます。

And I started the work this morning.  First is the piecing.  Stitching pieces together.

長くなってきました。３列出来上がり。
Getting longer.  Three rows are done.

キルトトップが出来上がり。The quilt top is finished.

キルトトップとキルト芯と裏地を重ねて。ミシンでキルト。
Put together the quilt top, batting and backing.  Then, quilt it by machine.

周りを手でかがり、できあがり！布を交換した他の１３人はどんな物を作るでしょうね？
Hand stitched the edges and finished! I wondered what 13 friends who participated in fabric exchange are going to make?

十五夜（中秋祭）Moon Festival

昨夜は中秋の名月。チャン一家は伝統の中国の文化を大切にします！だから夜外に出て満月を眺めながら、月餅を食べました。向こうの小さいのが満月。手前のでかいのが月餅の中に入っている卵の黄身。日本、中国、台湾、シンガポール、アメリカ、全世界のみなさ〜ん。遠く離れていても、同じ夜空の月を見つめているんですよね〜！月を見ながら皆さんの事を思い浮かべ、愛をお贈りいたしました。受け取ってくれましたか〜〜〜？？？！！ (^_^)

Last night was the Moon Festival. Chan family honors traditional Chinese culture! So, we went outside to admire the bright full moon and ate some moon cakes. The tiny dot in the sky is the full moon and the big one in front is the egg yolk in a piece of moon cake. Hello~!! to all the friends in Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, USA and all over the world. We are so far apart, but we are all looking at the SAME big moon in the night sky!!! I thought of you all when I gazed at the moon and sent my love!!! Hope you received it! (^_^)

庭の花 Flower in my garden.

今庭で満開にさいているのは、ニラの花。とてもきれいです。葉っぱは時々お料理に。
Chive flowers are in full bloom now in my garden. They are pretty. Leaves are used for cooking occasionally.

テスト Test

今週、短大でクラスを受講するための手続きの一部、アセスメントテストを受けてきました。科目は英語と数学。全部で８０問くらいあったでしょうか？？時間制限はなかったのですが、私が最高に集中しベストを尽くして１時間５０分かかりました。まあ〜〜本当に疲れました。後半はもう疲れて途中でギブアップしたくなりました。私の脳は、エンジンがオーバーヒートして煙を噴いている車のようでしたよ。(x_x)

I went to take an assessment test at a community college this week. The test was on Math and English. There were about 80 questions and no time limit. I gave my best and full attention to this test, but it took me about 1hr 50min. I was so exhausted and almost wanted to give up towards the end. My brain was like a car that was overheated and blowing white smoke! (x_x)

豆腐ベーグル TOFU bagel

また食べ物の話です。。。先日やろうと思っていた事が達成できなかったので、その代わりに何かやろうと思い。ベーグルを作る事にしました。まあこれが、本当に簡単で、思ったより上手にできました。豆腐、強力粉、砂糖とイーストだけで作るのですが、豆腐の味はせませんでした。豆腐製品などを取るように勧められている更年期の私によさそうです。

It's about food again...
I couldn't achieve what I intended few days ago, so I decided to accomplish something else and made bagel. This recipe was very simple and bagels turned out really well. It uses TOFU, bread flour, sugar and yeast. Bagels didn't have any TOFU taste. This TOFU bagel should be really good for menopausal woman like myself who's encouraged to eat more soy products.

肉 Meat

子供のランチはたいていサンドイッチ。いつも買ったハムを使いますが。ちょっと可哀相に思い、豚肉をオーブンで焼いてみました。味付けは塩、コショウとハーブ。これを薄くスライスして、野菜やチーズと一緒にパンにはさみランチに持っていきます。添加物がないからいいですね。ちなみにこのお肉、確か２キロちょっとで、１５ドル(1300円位）。アメリカはお肉が安いですね。

Boys bring sandwiches to school most of the time. I always use store bought hams, but I was feeling sorry for them. So, I roasted some pork loin in the oven. I seasoned it with salt, pepper and dry herbs. I slice this very thin and put together with some veggies and cheese to make boys' lunch. This way, we can avoid preservative and all other stuff normally listed on the packages. This meat was about 5lbs & $15. Meat is so much cheaper here in US compare to its price in Japan.

パンがない！ No bread!

買い物に行かないでいたら、あれ？明日の子供のランチのパンがない！店に買いに行くか、自分で作るかの選択に迫られた。買い物に出るのはかったるいなぁ〜。だらか作りました。ハイジパン。ちょ〜ふわふわ柔らかくてしっとり。美味しい〜〜！！皆さんに匂いも送りたいわぁ〜。

I didn't go shopping this week. Oh, no..there is no bread for kids' lunch tomorrow. I was left with two choices, going grocery shopping or making some bread myself. Hmmm..I didn't feel like going out, so I made bread. This is called "Heidi bread(used the recipe from Japanese web site)." It's very soft and moist. Delicious!! I wished I could send the smell of baking.
