夏バテ Heat Exhaustion

２週間前に梅雨明してからすごく蒸し暑くなりました。カリフォルニアの乾燥した暑さには慣れていますが、この蒸し暑さはきつい。暑さで苦しんでいるのは私たちだけじゃあなくて、なんとチョコバナナちゃんたちまで夏バテのようです。体重も少し軽くなり、ここ１週間は玉子も産んでいません。かわいそうなチョコバナナ。。少し日陰を作ってあげました。
Ever since the rainy season was over two weeks ago, the weather got so hot and humid. I am used to the dry heat in California, but this humidity is unbearable. And it's not just us who are suffering from the heat, but also "CHOCO & BANANA." They lost some weight and haven't laid any egg for a week. Poor CHOCO & BANANA! We made some shade for them.

高野山 Mt. Kohya

今週はたけちゃんと義理の両親が実家に滞在していました。火曜日と水曜日、１泊２日のツアーに参加して奈良と高野山へ行ってきました。なんと泊まった場所はお寺の宿坊。面白い体験でした。
T.K. and his parents came to visit us here this week. On Tue. & Wed., we joined a 1N/2D tour to Nara and Mt. Kohya. We stayed at a lodge at a temple. It was very interesting experience.


お食事はもちろん精進料理。The meals were, of course, Shojin Ryori.

お部屋はとっても地味と言うか古い。　The room was very basic or I should say old.

高野山に来たらここ「奥の院」。A must-visit place at Mt. Koya,"Okunoin."


沢山の墓碑、慰霊碑などがありました。日本史の中に出て来るとても有名な人の墓も沢山！そんな中、目をひいたのは、ロケット産業の会社が建てた、ロケット型の社墓。
There were so many gravestones, monuments and memorials there. So many famous people's names in Japanese history were found among them. Most interesting one was the rocket shaped monument built by a company that makes parts for rockets.

最近ちょ〜〜〜嬉しかった事。それは、１０年前に失効させてしまった日本の免許をもう一度もらえた事。どうやったかというと、カリフォルニアの免許証を日本の免許証に変えてもらった。幸い私は日本の免許証も持っていたので、視力検査と事務の人とのちょっとした面接だけで新しい免許を発行していただけました。こうも簡単に替えてもらえると思わなかったので、もうちょ〜〜〜ちょ〜〜嬉しかった。同じ時、そこに３人のアメリカ人がいて、一人は４回目の実技挑戦。結果はまたもや失敗。。。皆に「うらやまし〜な〜」と言われながらその場をあとにしました。

Recent event that made me SO SO happy is that I regained my Japanese driving license. Yeah~~~!!!! My license was expired 10 years ago when I failed to renew it at that time. How did I regain? I had my California driving license changed to Japanese one. Luckily, since I had a Japanese license before, I only needed to take an eye exam and have an interview with a guy in the office, then they issued me a new Japanese license. I wasn't expecting everything would go so smoothly. So, when I finally got my Japanese license in hand, oh...how happy I was!! There were three Americans there waiting at the same time. One of them tried for 4th time driving test and failed. They were all SO envious of my success!!

ふくろうさん Mr. Owl.

アメリカを発つちょっと前に作った作品です。ペンギンばかり作っているのにも飽きましたからね~~~***このふくろうさん、はるばるテメキュラから日本まで飛んできました。もしかしたらもうすぐあなたの家に向かって飛んでいくかも。
I made this right before I left US. I made enough of penguins~~~~*** Mr.Owl flew all the way from Temecula to Japan. Maybe he will be flying to your house soon!

傘?! Umbrella?!

私たち葡萄に傘？をかけてました。。。
We had been putting umbrella? over grapes...


この２、３日、私と子供で、姉の家のブドウ畑のお手伝いに行ってきました。腰も腕も筋肉痛！
Kids and I had visited my sister for a couple days to help her family on their grape farm. My back and arms are sore.

日本のお風呂は最高。Japanese Ofuro(bath) is the best!

先月実家では風呂場をリモデルしました。新しいお風呂はゆったり足を伸ばせます。お風呂場はサウナにも変身。
My parents had their bathroom remodeled last month. The new bathtub is long and I can stretch out my legs. The bathroom can turn into a sauna, too.


iPodをつないで音楽も聞けます。音楽を聴きながらのお風呂は最高！
I can connect iPod and listen to music. Music and bathing go so well together.


ジェットバスでマッサージもできます。腰に良いわ〜〜！言うまでもありませんがこれは私ではありません。私は水着など着て風呂に入りません。。。:-)
The air jets provide bubble massage. It feels so good on my back. Quite obviously, this is not me in the bathtub. I don't wear swim suits while I bath!! :-)
