話しかけてきた。スライスした玉ねぎがたまたま顔のようになってたので、眉毛と鼻を足してみました。でもちょっとハッピーフェースとは言えないね。多分もう数時間後には食べられてしまう運命だとするとそうハッピーな顔もしていられなかったのかしらね。。。:-(
talking to me.  It just happened that the sliced onion fell onto ham made a face, so I added eyebrows and nose to it.  But it didn't look very happy.  I guess it couldn't be happy knowing that it's destiny was to be eaten in couple hours.... :-(

サイプレスの木です！　ゆみさん、ミミさんその通り。塀の向こう側の木は木の先がとがっているのに、私の家のはどれも平。どうして？かというと。。大家さんがある迷信か風水を信じていて、それによると、家の周りの木々が自分の家より、もしくは玄関の戸より高くなると、幸運かお金か？何かが離れていってしまうとかなんとか。。。だから時折庭師さんが来て、木の背丈が伸びすぎないように手入れをしています。。

えっとね。。今のところこのへんで猿は目撃されていません。見た事あるのは、鳥やウサギやコヨーテだけです。皆さんの答え、とても楽しく拝見いたしました。皆さん、クイズにご参加ありがとうございました。

Italian Cypress Trees.  Yes, Yumi-san and Mimi-san.  The trees behind the fence got sharp ends, but ours are all flat.  Why?  The landlord believes if the trees got taller than the house or the doors,  a luck or money will leave or something to do with a luck.  So, every so often, gardener cuts the trees to make sure they don't get too tall!  

Well, I haven't seen any monkeys around here.  I've only seen birds, rabbits and coyotes so far.  I enjoyed your answers and all the guesses for the reason.  Thank you for your participation, everyone!

何かが違う！ Something is different!

この写真の中に同じ種類のものがあるんですが、なぜかそれらの何かが違うんです。何でしょう？これがわかった人はすごい！そしてその違いの裏には理由があるんです。。。。
There are some things in this picture which belongs to the same group, but they look slightly different.  What is it?  If you figure this out, you are amazing!  There is a reason behind their differences....

ハンバーガー Hamburger

ハンバーガーは買って食べるもの。。。。となぜか思い込んでいました。ケビンが友達の家で美味しい手作りハンバーガーを食べたらしく、ねえ作って作ってぇ〜〜とせがみ続けていたので、重い腰をあげてちょっと初挑戦！あら、やってみたら超簡単。お味もばっちり。日本の皆さん、マクドナルドに行かなくてもハンバーガーって家で作れるんですよ！え？こんな事やっと気がついた私はかなりお８”か？
Somehow I always assumed that hamburgers are something you buy and eat.  Kevin had been asking me to make hamburgers at home ever since he had a good one at friend's house.  He was so consistant that I finally had to make one for him for the first time.  To my surprise, it was SO so easy and tasted really good.  Hello~ friends in Japan, you don't need to go to McDonald, you can make a really nice hamburger at home!  What?!  Am I the only dumb one who didn't know this for such a long time?!

色 Colors

こちらは火曜日に作ったバッグと同じデザイン。でもね、あまり好きじゃあないんです。はっきり言って、気に入らないからほどいて作り直そうかと思いました。同じデザインでも色の組み合わせによってすごく印象が変わってしまうんですよね。この次はどんな色をどうやって組み合わせたらいいかなぁ〜。気に入るのが出来ると良いんだけど。。。
The design for this bag is exact the same as the one I made on Tuesday. This one doesn't appeal to me.  Frankly, I didn't like this so much that I wanted to undo everything.  Though I used the same design, it had totally different impression because of the colors I chose.  Hmm...  Which colors I should use and how I should arrange them the next time?  And I hope I'll like what I'll make...  (^0^)

バッグ A Bag

すごく久しぶりに、ビーズで遊びました。こんな可愛らしいバッグが完成。久しぶりにやってみて、すごく楽しかったです。で。。。老眼がさらにすすんでいる事に気がつきました。(*O*)
It's been a while since I did beading the last time.  I finished this lovely bag.  It was so much fun playing with beads.  Oh... and I found out that I needed stronger reading glasses (*O*) !!
 

ハッピーバレンタインデー！Happy Valentine's Day!

見てください！！こんな素敵な手作りクッキーを今日お友達から頂きました。あまりにも綺麗すぎて食べるのがもったいなぁ〜〜いと思いましたが。。もちろん食べましたよ！美味しかった！テメキュラの熱気球見たいに見えるのもあるね。。それにしてもあまりにも上手な仕上がりに感動です。

Look at these!!  A friend gave me these beautiful homemade cookies today.  It's too beautiful and I felt hesitant to eat, but of course, I did eat (^_^) .  They were delicious.  Some look like hot air balloons in Temecula.  I am SO so impressed by how beautifully she decorated her cookies.

ケビン君。今日は半日ベビーシッター。

３歳の男の子と遊びながらこんなものを作りましたよ。

Kevin babysit a three-year-old boy for a half day today and this is what he made.

映画館で。。。 At a Cinema

ケビンのお誕生日に映画館の１室を貸し切って、XBOX360を大きなスクリーンで遊びました。普段大勢で映画を見る場所に、私たち家族と数人の友達だけって言うのもヘンな感じでした。ビデオゲームを大きな映画のスクリーンでするのはなかなかの迫力でした。音もすごく良かったです。ちなみに、１時間貸し切りで６５ドル。ケビンはご満悦。

We rent out a Cinema and played XBOX360 on a Big Screen!  I felt a bit funny just having our family and few friends in such a big room where normally filled with a lot of people.  Playing video games on the big screen was really exciting and the sound was awesome.  FYI, we paid $65 for an hour of gaming.  Kevin and his friends were all VERY HAPPY!

ポカポカ陽気 Beautiful weather

このところ毎日とても暖かくて気持ちのいい日が続いています。でも家の中はちょっと寒くってヒーターをつけてしまいたくなります。先日お友達が聖書の学びに来た時、外の方がずっと暖かかったので、ピクニックテーブルを出して、外でお茶を飲みながら勉強しました。背中に当たる日差しがとても暖かくて、身体の芯まで暖まりました。青空の下で勉強したりお茶をしたりするのはとっても気持ちがいいですね。色んな小鳥のさえずりまで聞こえてとても素敵な時間を過ごしました。

We've been blessed with warm beautiful weather these days.  But it's still a little cold inside our house and I'm tempted to turn the heater on sometimes.  I had friends over for the Bible study the other day.  It was much warmer outside, so we decided to set up a picnic table and had the study and a tea time outside.   The sun light hit our back and warmed our entire body.  It felt so good to study and had tea outside under the clear blue sky.  We heard different birds' chirping and it made our time even more special.

ティーンエイジャー！Teenager!

我が家にもう一人ティーンエイジャーが誕生です！

恵敏は今日で１３歳になりました。なんて可愛い笑顔！(^_^) ！

We officially have another teenager at home!  

Kevin turned thirTEEN today.  Love his smile !(^_^)!

ちなみに今回のバースデーケーキはキャラメルアップルケーキです。
もちろん、おいしかったですぅ〜〜〜！！！
FYI, the birthday cake for Kevin was a Caramel Apple Cake.  Yummy!

新年快楽 Happy Chinese New Year!

今日２月３日は、旧正月の元旦です。こちらの赤い封筒は日本で言うとお年玉、中国では紅包といいます。この紅包を大晦日の夜に子供たちにあげて、子供たちはそれを枕の下に入れて寝ると新しい年にはお金が沢山やって来るみたいな意味合いがあるのだそうです。出張中の主人に大晦日に子供に紅包をあげるようにと言われていたのに、すっかり忘れてしまった私でした。忘れないようにと数日前から準備をして、目につくところに置いておいたのに！！だめだった。。。忘れてしまった！！！がっくし。。

Today, February 3rd is the first day of Lunar New Year.  This red envelope is called "HongPao."  We put money inside this envelope and give them to children the night before the new year.  They supposed to put envelopes under their pillows and sleep.  Then, it supposed to bring prosperity and more money throughout the year. My husband who is out of town now asked me to give kids the red envelopes, but I forgot!  I prepared the envelopes a couple days ago and put them where I could see, BUT I FORGOT!!!  Ah.... so disappointed...
