刺し子 Sashiko

これは私が抱えている数ある未完成手芸作品の一つ。この刺し子をいつ始めたのかも良く覚えていませんが、おそらく結婚する前に始めたような気がするので、少なくとも２３年は経っています。先日日本のテレビ番組で、おばさんがとっても綺麗な刺し子のキルトを作っていました。それに感化されて、再びこの手芸作品に取りかかる事にしました。
This is another one of my unfinished craft projects.  I don't remember when I started this SASHIKO.  I might have started this before I got married, which means it could be more than 23 years ago.  I watched a lady making a beautiful Sashiko quilt on a Japanese TV program and it inspired me to start working on this project again.

片側は既に完成しています。表から見るとこんな感じ。日本の伝統手芸って素敵ですね。
One side is already completed and this is how it looks.  The traditional Japanese crafts are beautiful.

宿題。。。 Homeworks

投稿が遅れているのにお気づきでしょうか？いやー、とにかく、宿題をこなすのに大変ですよ！！作文は沢山書かされるし。教科書も読まされるし。問題もやらなくちゃいけないし。週に２回、２時間のクラス。楽しいんですけど、ギブアップしたい誘惑とも戦いながらやっております。私が国語と社会、大の苦手だって言う事を知ってる中学の時の先生がきっとこれを読んでるはず。頑張ってますよ〜！
Did you notice that I haven't been posting often lately?  I've been struggling to finish my homework on time.  I've been asked to write many essays, read many pages and work on the questions in the textbook.  I've been going to school twice a week for two hours each session.  I've been enjoying the class, but I've been tempted to quit at the same time.  Sigh...   I know my middle school teacher who knows that I hate language and history is reading this post.  Hello~, I am hanging in there!!

最高の天気 Perfect weather

ここ南カリフォルニアは税金が高いかも知れないけど、やっぱり天気は最高〜！

We don't like the tax rate here in Southern California, but we LOVE the BEAUTIFUL weather!

私へのギフトはiPad！iPhoneと違って画面が大きくて老眼には最高。

The gift for me was an iPad.  This screen is so much bigger than iPhone's and no need  for reading glasses.  Yay!

お友達が作ってくれた薔薇のメレンゲクッキー。とっても綺麗でとっても美味しい！

This Meringue Rose was made by my friend.  It's so pretty and delicious!

スムージー Smoothie

綺麗でしょー！私のランチだよん。中身はビート、オレンジ、レモン、人参。林檎と水。

Isn't this beautiful!   This was my lunch.   It has beetroot, orange, lemon, carrot, apple and water.

今のテメキュラの気温、２８度。暖かくって気持ちいー！

The temperature in Temecula now is 85F.  So warm and nice! 

今日ファーマーズマーケットで買って来ました。このカリフォルニアオレンジはとても甘い匂いがします。新鮮な野菜や果物を使って作ったスムージーは美味しい。
I bought those at the farmer's market today.  These California oranges smell very sweet.  The smoothie made with those fresh veggetables and fruits was very good.

ジャガイモ収穫 Harvesting Potatoes

台所に置いていたジャガイモに芽が出てしまったので、畑に植えたのは数ヶ月前。

It was a couple monthes ago, I planted potatoes in my garden because some potatoes in my kitchen pantry sprouted.

葉っぱが枯れていたので掘り起こしてみたら。。

Since the leaves wilted, I tried digging up..

 小さいジャガイモが３つ！こんなに簡単にジャガイモが育てられるなんてびっくり。

I found three small potatoes!  I am quite surprised how easy it was to grow potatoes.

隣にはミニトマトがなっていました。

There were some snack tomatoes next to potatoes.

学校へ行く Going to School

明日から短大へ行きまーす。教科書にノートに筆記用具におやつに、必需品の老眼鏡〜！頑張りまーす。
I am starting community college tomorrow.  Got textbook, notebook, stationary, snack and must-have-reading glasses!  I will do my best!

恵敏は１６歳 Kevin is Sixteen

今日はケビンの16回目のお誕生日でしたー。ここ２年ですごく変わりましたね。
Today was Kevin's 16th birthday.  He had changed a lot in last two years.

今日は純生ロールを作りました。めちゃ美味しかった〜！

I made fluffy roll cake today.  It was super delicious~!

織物経過報告 Weaving Update

私が去年の１２月に始めたプロジェクトを覚えてらっしゃいますか？

今年に入ってやっと始めました。

I finally started working on it this year.

 結局敷物を作る事にしました。This is going to be a rug.

 こちらの古着も新しい物に作り替えられます。

This old clothes will turn into something new.

私の大好きな本の一冊。ジョセフさんは古くなったコートをジャケットに作り替えました。それも古くなったのでベストにしました。それも古くなり。。最後には何もなくなってしまったのですが、でもその話を書いた本を作りました。アイデアがあったら何もない所からでもなんでも作れるんですよね。こちらで英語の読み聞かせが見られます。

This is one my favorite books.  Josepha had a little overcoat and it got old and worn, so he made a jacket out of it.  The jacket got old and worn, so he made a vest out of it.  In the end, he had nothing, but he decided to make a book about it.  When you have an IDEA, you can always make something out of nothing.  Click here to watch "Joseph had a little overcoat" video.
